For those of us who are affected by mobility issues as we get older, losing weight may help. The more excess weight we carry, the harder it is on our joints, limbs and heart. Consult with your doctor before you attempt any weight loss program, but these six foods can help you to shed the pounds to improve your mobility:
Grapefruit

This fruit is wonderful for cardiovascular health; it contains folic acid, vitamin C, potassium and pectin. The latter is a soluble fiber that may prevent narrowing of the arteries.
Lettuce
Most lettuces have only 70 calories per pound, so this is one of the most diet-friendly foods out there. Romaine lettuce is an excellent source of B vitamins, as well as manganese, which regulates blood sugar.
Cauliflower
Cauliflower is full of many phytonutrients that can fight cancer. It also is a good source of folate and vitamin C. Lightly steamed cauliflower florets are delicious and good for you. Also try mashing cauliflower with a bit of butter rather than potatoes.
Broccoli
Broccoli is an outstanding source of calcium and fiber. It will make you feel full after eating it, and it has very few calories. It is particularly tasty when steamed and sprinkled with olive oil.
Cabbage
Cabbage is high in vitamin C and is also great to boost the immune system. It is very tasty when sauteed in stir fry, or even paired with sweet/tart apples.
Spinach
Spinich is low calorie, flavorful and tender. It is high in folic acid, iron and vitamin K. It also is full of antioxidants that fight many types of diseases that affect us as we age.
You can used spinach as a great substitute for lettuce in your salad. Try lightly sauteing spinach with chopped carrots and mushrooms as well as garlic, a wonderful filling for a delicious omelet.
