The EquaGel General Gel Wheelchair Cushion is a medical-grade polymer gel seat cushion with sculpted pelvic contour. This gel wheelchair cushion, designed for moderate cushioning needs, will not lose its shape and will remain soft and supportive.
The EquaGel General Gel Wheelchair Cushion has two layers: a top layer made of a grid of smaller, softer cells, and a bottom layer with a grid of larger, firmer cells. Pressure is redistributed using a column buckling effect. When pressure is applied to a column, it collapses, which allows the weight to be shared across adjacent columns, allowing the user to sink into the cushion. The gel's elastic quality enables the columns to continue to reform to the proper shape, which prevents bottoming out.
The EquaGel General Cushion has been molded to include a depression for the sacrum and ischial tuberosities. The two layers thin at the back to create a well that assists with redistributing pressure from high-risk areas to the thighs and greater trochanters. This design also assists with positioning and maintaining posture, preventing the user from sliding forward. The General Cushion height is 2.0 inches, and the rear well height is ¾ inch.
The fully washable, black, outer fabric of the cover is soft, stretchy, breathable, fluid, and flame-resistant. There is a label on the left side of the cover to help users position their cushions correctly. The cover has Velcro on the base to secure it, a carrying handle on the back, and a zipper.
