Removable, changeable Awesome Grip Wheelchair Hand Rim Covers fit the push wheels of standard size manual wheelchairs. Closed cell foam base will not slip on the wheelchair rims or in the hands. These covers are larger and softer than the gripping surface of standard hand rims, making it easier and less stressful on hand joints for self propelling a manual wheelchair. it works well but,

this item is way overpriced - if you buy one it''s easy to see how one could make one yourself for about $15 in materials, maybe less. get 12'' of round insulating 1/2" pipe foam at your hdwe or home imp. store and fit it over the hand rims-tape in place at a few points for stability. then buy fabric (washable cotton/poly blend) and create 2 pieces, ea. 6'' long and 5.5" wide - then sew on 6'' long velcro strips (1/2" w)lengthwise on each piece (one on front and other on reverse side). then simply cover the foam with the fabric and tighten it over the rims so the velcro pieces meet each other. A second set is handy when you want to wash one set.

This is the most poorly designed item I have ever bought! The instructions say to overlap the foam 1" on the end. (Ridiculous. Makes a huge bulge!) Then the cover is one piece, with no accommodation for the spokes. So after 3 hours of pulling and stretching and tugging, we finally got the covers on the rims. BUT, each place there is a spoke, the cover CANNOT be fastened together. This leaves gaps that my hands or fingers catch in as the wheel turns. If I hadn't already positioned the sticky foam on the rims, I would have returned this item and demanded my money back. DON'T BUY IT!
